After publishing I Thought We'd Never Speak Again, I wanted to
find a way to personally help people who longed to resolve estranged relationships.
I spent months searching for a way to help people who couldn't travel
to a distant seminar or attend an expensive workshop. I wanted to offer
my readers ongoing support, rather than a one-time shot in the arm.
That's when I discovered teleclasses,
an exciting, new way of learning over the phone.
"I'd never heard of teleclasses
when I signed up for yours, and I wasn't sure a weekly phone call with
a group of strangers could help me figure out what to do about my relationship
with my father. But I had read your books and I trusted you, so I signed
up. On our first call together, I was amazed at the level of intimacy
that could be created over the telephone. You wove a web of
connection between us that left me feeling like I was talking to old
friends. I found myself looking forward to our weekly calls as a place
of inspiration, communion and refuge."
--Samantha, Winnipeg, Canada
"Thanks for bringing me into your teleclass
community. Everyone's circumstances were so different, yet there was
such a sense of respect and camaraderie on the phone. Participating
in your class let me know I wasn't alone and gave me a safe place to
reflect on the painful separations I've been struggling with in my life."
--Mindy Myers, Matawan, New Jersey
Here's how teleclasses work:
People from all over the world call in to a central number at
a designated time, and are linked together on a conference line.
The call is billed just like a regular long distance call, yet you can
be talking simultaneously to people from Geneva, London, New York and
San Francisco.
Teleclasses give you the opportunity to meet an amazingly diverse
and creative group of people, all of whom want to support you in your
efforts toward healing and reconciliation.
One of the great things about teleclasses is that you can attend
them while relaxing in your favorite chair, in the comfort of your living
room, with a cool drink or a steaming cup of coffee in your hand. You
can kick off your shoes, put your feet up, even wear your pajamas. This
is learning at its easiest and most fun.
Teleclasses provide you with a wealth of information, inspiration
and support, without ever leaving home. Gone are the days of
having to fight traffic or fly to a distant city for a seminar. Just sit
back, relax, and dial in. All you need is a telephone, long distance service,
and the desire to change your life in positive ways.
"Laura achieved an excellent
blend of providing information, sharing lessons from her own life, and
inviting us to explore our own experiences, challenges and insights.
Through a mix of exercises, journaling, discussion, and reflection,
Laura encouraged us to engage in personal inquiry about our circumstances
so we could draw our own conclusions about how we wanted to proceed.
Laura's teleclass provided empowering tools and tactics that
enabled me to move forward with confidence and hope."
--Mike Cohen, Seattle
"Living here in Australia, I assumed
I'd never be able to attend one of your seminars. Thanks to your teleclass,
I had the distinct privilege of being able to work with you. I
loved tapping into a wonderful community of support from all around
the world. I can't wait for the next class!"
--Jackson, Perth, Australia
Teleclassses are the perfect setting for a class on reconciliation. The
human voice is an amazing instrument for communicating feelings. The intimacy
that can be achieved on the phone is remarkable. Teleclasses are a wonderful
medium for talking about difficult issues; you get connection and support
while remaining anonymous at the same time.
This past year, I've held a number of eight-week classes, an
hour a week, for small groups of participants. I call my class "How
to Repair Damaged Relationships and Feel Whole Again" and
that is exactly what you'll learn to do.
If you join one of my teleclasses, you will:
- Become part of a caring community of people who understand your circumstances,
challenges, and feelings
- Learn the skills required to heal troubled relationships
In exchange for an hour a week of your time, you will discover:
- your best reconciliation strategy
- how to avoid future pain from fruitless attempts
at reconciliation
- whether the time is right for you to reconcile
- the critical difference between reconciliation and caving
in because you don't know what else to do
- how to embrace the possibility of reconciliation •
setting yourself up for disappointment
- why you must heal emotional injuries before you can
even consider reconciliation
- why distance from certain people can be a good
thing
- how to build a solid support system that's there
for you
- how to understand your role in the relationship
- how to rebuild relationships and bring them back to a loving
place despite old wounds
- how to get over the three main obstacles to reconciliation
- why “failing" at reconciliation can still result in
personal success
- how to overcome your pride without selling out
“Thanks so much for introducing me to
the whole teleclass concept. So simple, yet it works so well. I've
always loved your books, and really enjoyed getting to know you 'in
person.' On our calls, you were brilliant, insightful, and
always real. You seemed to know instinctively when to speak up and
when to get out of the way and let us interact with each other. Thanks
for turning me on to a whole new way of learning."
--Geneen, Fairbanks, Alaska
Are teleclasses a form of therapy?
No, teleclasses are not a form of therapy. "How to Repair Damaged Relationships
and Feel Whole Again" is an educational class, designed to provide information,
thought-provoking questions, and a respectful dialogue with other people
interested in the issue of reconciliation. It is not a replacement or
substitute for therapy.
Teleclasses aren't like traditional classes either with the expert in
front of the room and the students dutifully taking notes. Teleclasses
are interactive; they're about building community. The teleclass format
is designed to tap the wisdom that surfaces when a group of people put
their hearts and minds together to discuss an issue they're vitally interested
in.
How will I know if this teleclass is right for me?
This teleclass is designed for people who love to learn, want to be
part of an exciting new interactive form of education, and want to improve
the quality of their lives and their relationships. If you have a specific
relationship you would like to work on, or if you would simply like to
improve your skills in dealing with difficult people, this class can help
you.
How will I know if it isn't appropriate for me to take this teleclass?
This teleclass is not an appropriate place to process old wounds. If
you are at a point where you primarily need to focus on the ways you were
hurt by the other person, or on events from the past, you would be better
served by seeking a skilled, licensed psychotherapy professional. However,
if you've already done a significant amount of personal healing and are
ready to consider the complex issues involved in reconciliation, this
class can offer invaluable support.
How will I benefit if I sign up?
You will tap into a tremendous network of caring and support without
ever leaving home. You will meet wonderful people from all over the world
who want to help you get what you want in life. You will benefit from
the knowledge, insight and experience I bring to the table. You will gain
increased clarity about your personal situation and a greater sense of
empathy for yourself and for the people you are struggling with. You will
have fun and you will laugh. At times you may cry. You will learn to deal
with difficult people, get to know yourself better and improve your communication
skills. If you apply the principles and ideas taught in these classes,
you will walk away with a greater sense of resolution and peace, whether
or not you are able to directly reconcile with the other person.
Will my specific situation be dealt with on the calls?
Most of the work on your particular circumstances will be done on your
own, using the techniques, principles and strategies discussed in the
calls. However, during class, you will have the opportunity to share insights
you gained, struggles you are experiencing, or successes you have achieved.
Can this class help me if I'm dealing with a relationship in which reconciliation
seems unlikely or impossible?
If you are in a relationship that seems impossible to reconcile, this class
can help you broaden your sense or possibilities and achieve a deeper
sense of peace, whether or not you make progress directly with the other
person. There is peace in knowing that you did everything you could possibly
do.
Will what I say be kept confidential?
Your privacy is very important to me. One of the greatest benefits
of teleclasses is that they provide a sense of anonymity that frees you
up to express what's really in your heart. Confidentiality is the cornerstone
of our commitment to each other.
What if I have to miss a class?
Classes are recorded each week and are available immediately after
class. You can call a special replay line anytime during the following
month to listen in on the class you missed. In this way, you never have
to miss a class!
“I joined your teleclass because I hadn't
spoken to my daughter in three years and didn't know where to turn.
Your class gave me a wonderful opportunity to view our estrangement
from a new perspective. I especially benefited from the interactions
I had with other class members. Having the chance to hear from another
mother in my position as well as a daughter who is estranged from her
parents was incredibly valuable. I got to put myself in my daughter's
shoes in a way I never had before."
--Helen, New Orleans
