Hi Laura,
I have not gone through cancer or a traumatic head injury but... I have been feeling exactly that lately. No desire to start new project, no real fire..., the kitchen remodel remains unfinished, a great gaping hole.... Nice that you have articulated it so well. It comforts me.
Hi Laura, Thanks again for a thought-provoking message and book recommendation. Have you also read "My Stroke of Insight" by Jill Bolte Taylor? It's a similar story--of a neuroscientist who had a stroke and wrote about how it transformed her life from pre- to post-stroke. As we have discussed before, my life has taken the opposite direction of yours---going back to graduate school and starting a whole new career as a single mom is the most daunting challenge I've undertaken yet. I have no time for friends (see, I have to communicate with you via this blog!) and hardly time for my family. And yet, there's nothing I'd rather do at this time of my life. But it comes at a price. For you, I see this period of your life as a time of BEing (as opposed to DOing), and I guess what I want to say is to ENJOY it! Just love being for now, and later will come the integration of the two. That's what I'm aiming for, anyway....... Have a wonderful cruise! (I'd love to walk after you return.)
Love always, Bing - Bing Shaw
