Nancy Guinther is a member of the Wednesday morning writing practice group. This piece came directly from a prompt in class to write about a familiar emotion.
Embarrassment feels like not remembering a good friend’s name when introducing her to your mom…
Embarrassment feels like a hot flush from your cheeks to your toes that glows red as a summer apple…
Embarrassment feels like a tongue that’s grown three times its size and hangs from your mouth as if lost...
Embarrassment feels like a long hat that covers your head and shoulders leaving only your legs and feet exposed...
Embarrassment feels like eating six scoops of ice cream in a health food cafĂ©…
Embarrassment feels like a dress made of napkins stapled together at the seams that tears and shreds as you move…
Embarrassment feels like a smell that doesn’t belong -- that makes dogs cringe and people walk away…
Embarrassment feels like twenty eyes zeroed in on the zit at the end of your nose that’s red and ready to erupt...
Embarrassment feels like a bumpy bed where it’s impossible for you to get comfortable.
Nancy says: I’m new to the Santa Cruz area and even newer to Laura's Wednesday morning class. I live with my husband, two very old dogs and an even older cat. I work part time as a business development consultant for the “built” community and send corporate “cold” emails all day. This “Embarrassment” piece came out of my head directly to my pen without pause, most likely from embarrassing moment memories.
